VOLCANIC IMPACTS ON CLIMATE & SOCIETY (VICS)

16-18 June 2026

Volcanic eruptions exert a major forcing on Earth’s climate and have repeatedly perturbed human society through history. St Andrews hosted international researchers and policy experts to examine the lessons these events can provide for climate science, societal response, and hazard management. Funded by PAGES, with logistical support and leadership from the GRC, the event also featured “war games” style scenario planning for managing the impacts of future eruptions.
